Test your precision hurling skills by hitting a floating target on the Shannon!  Or if spectating is your thing, we would be delighted to welcome you.

Sunday 27th July

Time: 12:00 noon

Location: Banagher Park

Under 20 cup and Joe McDonagh cup will be there at noon Sunday for Puc across the Shannon—photo and signing opportunity for you to meet your hurling champions.

You will be invited to puck a sliotar, aim,  and ideally get it into the goal net which will be floating in the river!
Contestants will be in one of four categories: adult male, adult female, junior male, and junior female. There will be a prize for the winners in each category.

The concept of the competition originates in the Irish legend of “Táin Bó Cuailgne” when Cúchulainn, who as the boy Setanta set out from his home at Dún Dealgan to the King’s court at Emain Macha hitting his sliotar before him and running ahead to catch it.

The event is organised by Offaly Search and Recovery; as part of their annual fundraiser. Contestants and members of the public attending will have an opportunity to make a contribution to Offaly Search and Recovery (which is a registered charity: Charity Number 20206023) either by cash or card.

No booking is necessary but it would be great if you would register an interest on our website
