OLDC Craftmaster Documentaries Launch

Offaly Local Development Company (OLDC) launches "Legacy - Craftmasters," a dedicated initiative celebrating the traditional skills masters. As part of OLDC's commitment to the exceptional talents of Offaly's traditional craftspeople, a series of six short documentaries have been produced to showcase some of the best of Offaly's traditional crafts, from blacksmithing and weaving to jewellery design, basket weaving, slate carving, and Mountmellick embroidery. These documentaries highlight the incredible skills of the artisans who are preserving Ireland's rich cultural heritage.

Celebrating Charlotte Brontës Associations with Banagher

As part of the 10th That Beats Banagher Festival, this year’s festival will include a weekend of dedicated events celebrating Charlotte Brontë and her husband Arthur Bell Nicholls and their connections with Banagher. The first event will be on Friday 21st July at 6:30 pm with the opening of an exhibition 'The Legacy of the Brontës in Banagher' and the showing of a related film by Maebh O’Regan. Eileen Casey will read from her collections of poems Bog Treasure and Bogmen First and Last and speak of her love for the works of the Brontë sisters. Wool Spinning Demonstration

Join Seamus Kirwan in preserving the old craft of hand-spinning wool on spinning wheels, drop spindles or walking wheel!  Come along and enjoy the demonstration. Seamus will bring several different styles of spinning wheels and drop spindles to the workshop so you will also have the opportunity to try these skills.
