Battle of the Blacksmiths

Get ready for an unforgettable experience in Banagher! We're thrilled to announce a one-of-a-kind event that's sure to leave you in awe. Following the huge success of last year's Blacksmithing Demonstration with James O'Connor, a master of traditional blacksmithing, we're bringing him back with a bang! This time, James will be joined by over 20 skilled blacksmiths and traditional craft experts from all over, for a jam-packed weekend filled with the art of forging, blacksmithing skills, and much more.

Straw Weaving Demo with Padraig Larkin

Enjoy watching Padraig Larkin using ancient Irish straw-making techniques to make baskets and other items of interest. The demo will be free and available for everyone to view.

Wool Spinning Demonstration

Join Seamus Kirwan in preserving the old craft of hand-spinning wool on spinning wheels, drop spindles or walking wheel! Come along and enjoy the demonstration. Seamus will bring several different styles of spinning wheels and drop spindles to the workshop so you will also have the opportunity to try these skills.

Arts & Crafts with Claire Guinan

Explore your creative side in our art and craft classes. Your little artists will decorate and make a selection of paper crafts. Suitable for children between 4-7 and 8-11. Classes will be held on both Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 -12:30 (ages 4 - 7) and 2:00-3:00 (ages 8- 11) Booking is essential

Long Puck across the Shannon

Banagher Park Banagher, Ireland

Test your precision hurling skills by hitting a floating target on the Shannon!  Or if spectating is your thing, we would be delighted to welcome you.   You will be invited to puck a sliotar, aim,  and ideally get it into the goal net which will be floating in the river!  Contestants will be in one of four categories: adult male, adult female, junior male, and junior female. There will be a prize for the winners in each category.

Celebrating Charlotte Brontës Associations with Banagher

As part of the 10th That Beats Banagher Festival, this year’s festival will include a weekend of dedicated events celebrating Charlotte Brontë and her husband Arthur Bell Nicholls and their connections with Banagher. The first event will be on Friday 21st July at 6:30 pm with the opening of an exhibition 'The Legacy of the Brontës in Banagher' and the showing of a related film by Maebh O’Regan. Eileen Casey will read from her collections of poems Bog Treasure and Bogmen First and Last and speak of her love for the works of the Brontë sisters.
