OLDC Craftmaster Documentaries Launch

Offaly Local Development Company (OLDC) launches "Legacy - Craftmasters," a dedicated initiative celebrating the traditional skills masters. As part of OLDC's commitment to the exceptional talents of Offaly's traditional craftspeople, a series of six short documentaries have been produced to showcase some of the best of Offaly's traditional crafts, from blacksmithing and weaving to jewellery design, basket weaving, slate carving, and Mountmellick embroidery. These documentaries highlight the incredible skills of the artisans who are preserving Ireland's rich cultural heritage.

Martello Movie Nights

Join us for an outdoor movie screening for kids aged 9 and above at Martello Coffee Dock on Friday night 26th of  July. Bring a blanket or chair and settle in for a fun night under the stars. This time, James will be joined by over 20 skilled blacksmiths and traditional craft experts from all over, for a jam-packed weekend filled with the art of forging, blacksmithing skills, and much more. Iron Smelting

Following the huge success of last year’s Iron Ore Smelting demonstrations Paul Rondelez is back with more experts to teach and demonstrate during That Beats Banagher Festival 2024! In 2023, as part of the That Beats Banagher Festival, some of this ore was smelted into iron. This year will see several furnaces pumping out true Banagher iron. The Furnace Festival takes place next to the amazing blacksmiths of Forged in Ireland who demonstrate the skills involved in modern forging. Click image to read more.
